COROS APEX Review & Best Price – Premium Multisports Watch

The COROS APEX is available in a premium titanium alloy or ceramic bezel finish, depending on the model you pick, complete with a sapphire glass for extreme protection. Read on for more details and reviews of the COROS APEX.

Simple controls

Using buttons to change screens can be overwhelming at times, especially in the middle of a workout. With the digital knob, you can easily navigate through the APEX inside and out with a single turn of the knob by using only one finger.

Utilizes COROS Trainer – A Complete Training Guide

Based on a unique algorithm with lactate threshold, the COROS Trainer dials-in your running training every day. It will be split-up into three different stages: Warm Up, Training, and Cool Down. The COROS Trainer will then provide the duration and target heart rate throughout each stage. This is available for both Aerobic and Anaerobic Training modes.

To help prevent injury, the COROS Trainer determines your effort level, broken down into stamina level (0-100) and training effect (0-6). Exerted way too much stamina? COROS Trainer will notify you if it’s time to rest up. Based on the effort level and training history, you will then be able to see an advised recovery window before you begin your next activity. This is available for Interval, Aerobic, and Anaerobic Training modes.

Advanced Training Analysis

Once you’ve finished your workout, the COROS App will give you a complete graphical analysis of your training – including: VO2 max, recovery advisor, threshold pace, last-7 days training load, personal fitness index and plenty more. Additionally, you can connect to your favorite 3rd party applications such as STRAVA and TrainingPeaks and automatically upload your workouts.

COROS Navigation Track

Equipped with track and navigation features, APEX can be your best tool when you need directions the most. Routes are uploaded and displayed on grid as a bread crumb trail with real time information on heading and elevation and alerts to help you get back on course.

Smart Learning Stride Length

Introducing COROS’ very own, Intelligent Stride Algorithm. This unique algorithm embodies machine learning at its core to record your personal range of motion while running. This will build your very own stride model that will be used for indoor running or areas of weak GPS signal (such as tunnels).

Inter-Changeable Wrist Straps

Easily swap-in and out the premium silicone watch band on your COROS APEX watch to a color or material that matches your personality. Not to mention, our watch band will also sit comfortably on your wrist, allowing for more accurate heart rate readings.

Ultra-Durable Battery Life

Make constantly charging your watch a thing of the past. With APEX, you will have a watch that is built to last above and beyond your workout. In UltraMax setting, the battery is carefully engineered to last up to 100 hours using GPS. While using normal mode will yield up to 35 hours, and regular usage up to 30 days.

I am a pretty frugal guy that does a ton of research before making most purchases and my watch buying process was no exception. I did a tremendous amount of online research, read a ton of technical reports, watched video reviews of countless watches and ultimately landed on the Apex – it is everything I hoped it would be an then some!
There are a few main reasons that I gave up my Garmin for the Apex. First and foremost, I need the battery life that only Apex can offer in the price range. I am an ultra runner and have grown frustrated with losing my watch during training runs and even worse during races. This will not be a problem with the Apex, the battery lasts forever on a charge. I have been very impressed with how long it holds its charge, especially when using the GPS function.
Another reason that I am moving from my Garmin to the Coros is that my outdated Garmin does not do elevation. The Apex has a barometer which has been a big boost to my training and helped me be more intentional with my hill work.
The last major reason that I chose the Coros Apex is how much watch you get for the money. At the end of the day, for the battery life, barometer, and other functions available on the Apex you would have to spend twice as much on another brand to get similar results. I have really enjoyed how easy my Apex is to use, how quickly it syncs up to GPS, the Coros app and it’s user friendliness, and the watch’s interfaces. Overall, the Coros Apex is the perfect watch for what I need and is probably the perfect watch for whatever your needs are as well!

Pro’s watch is light, GPS seems accurate and the best is that even with 3 – 5 times a week of running the watch has a long battery life. I have it for a month now and only charged it once.
Con’s – the watch doesn’t seem as sturdy as my Garmin Fenix 5, it already has a scratch in the bezel and the app interface is not as good as Garmin connect. I.e. I cannot easily see weekly summaries etc. Maybe over time developers will improve this. Overall very happy with the watch at what I think is a fair price compared to its competitors.

Firstly, the battery life is amazing. I’ve had it for about 5 weeks now and I’m nearing the end of my second charge. It came with 97% charge out of the box. I’ve worn it daily and nightly and have tracked almost 10 hours of activity with it spread out over all of the weeks in 30-45 minute runs and 1.5 hour+ bike rides.

Secondly, I did not know that watch straps could be this comfortable. I’d read the reviews commenting on that, but it still surprised me how light and comfortable it is and how easy it was to forget I’m wearing the watch.

As for performance, you have to understand that this is a targeted watch. If you want something that can track 30 different activities, this may not be for you. As of the updates today (05JUL19), I can track run, indoor run, trail run, hike, bike, indoor bike, pool swim, open water, and triathlon. GPS accuracy seems to be solid to me, but check youtube if you are really concerned about the accuracy of the tracking. I’ve not noticed any discrepancy between the watch, Runkeeper, and my old TomTom GPS watch over the same routes, so take that for what it’s worth.

The interface is fairly intuitive, although I wish there had been more instructions on retrieving basic functions like the alarm or stopwatch in the quick-start guide. However, playing around with the buttons makes discovering them pretty easy. The update time between the app and the watch are astoundingly fast! Whether it’s a firmware update, GPS data, or just the most recent activity, it’s fast. Like, when I come into the house, by the time I walk into my room where I left my phone, take my shoes off, and pick up my phone, I already have an alert from Strava (linked to the Coros app) stating the workout is ready to review!

You have to be very nitpicky to truly call the following negatives. They are simply things that may not be fully up to par. The screen is not the brightest, although I have never had difficulty reading it, even in direct sunlight with sunglasses on. The colors are not the most vibrant. It doesn’t track freestyle workouts where the energy expended has nothing to do with the distance traveled. When receiving a phone alert on the watch, you have to clear it on the phone and the watch. None of those are deal-breakers for me, not by a long shot. Especially when compared to the battery life.

Overall, this watch hits WAY above it’s price point (purchased for $350). This is exemplified by youtube, where almost every comparison of the Apex is against watches that are at least half again as expensive, or even twice the money! There is nothing in this segment that does what it does as well as it does for the same money.

I would 100% buy it again
