If you’re looking for women’s neutral running shoes then you’re in luck! ‘Neutral’ is the term used to refer to any running shoe that does not offer support, stability or guidance for runners who are over or under-pronators, and should suit the majority of runners. If you don’t need the additional support, then I recommend you avoid shoes designed to provide guidance or stability, as these features may actually make you uncomfortable or contribute to an injury.
Many women’s neutral running shoes will not specifically say they are ‘neutral’; to determine this, it is important to research them and check the descriptions do not talk about guidance, stability or support, which may indicate that they are not neutral running shoes.
To help you find the right pair, I’ve set out below my top picks for some of the most popular and highly-rated neutral running shoes for women, for everyday road running and races up to marathon distance. Brooks Ghost 11
The Brooks Ghost 10 have been my go-to road running shoe. I couldn’t rate them highly enough, and the Brooks Ghost 11 are an updated version of these versatile road running shoes. Super-comfortable, easy to wear for miles, with a good level of cushioning and snug fit. Oh, and they look good, too.
Brooks also make a Gore-Tex waterproof version of the Ghost 11, which are great if you do a lot of running in the wet and go a little way off-road, such as through parks and local trails.
Adidas Solar Boost
Highly-rated, great cushioning, road running shoe. Not the cheapest but a very popular shoe for road running of all distances, so worth the investment.
New Balance Fresh Foam Beacon
Super-lightweight yet cushioned road running shoe from New Balance.
Altra Torin 3.5
The Beacon shoe runs a little narrower than other New Balance shoes, so for a wider fit, a popular neutral running shoe is the Altra Torin. We like the new 3.5 mesh edition, which, like other Altra shoes, is zero drop, too. Altras tend not to be as durable as people would like (hence the overall rating), but if you want to enjoy a super-comfy ride while it lasts, then these are a great shoe.
Asics Gel Nimbus 20
The fact that Asics are now on to their 20th version of Gel Nimbus shoes is a good indicator that they are on to a good thing. My first pair of running shoes were a pair of Gel Nimbus. They are know for the supreme comfort and cushioning regardless of your daily mileage.
